The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger Regarding Size Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes failing to inform all users about the change.
Social Media Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to review their products and update the measurements by hand if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Updates
Before the change, the measurements included one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Experiences
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she said.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
